Racquetball Canada Launches Hall of Fame

Winnipeg, MB, December 12, 2016 – Racquetball Canada is pleased to announce the launch of the Racquetball Canada Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is intended to honour the outstanding accomplishments of individual athletes and teams, as well as sport builders such as coaches, officials, volunteers and sport leaders who have been instrumental in the growth and development of the sport.

The Hall of Fame was a project initiated by Jack McBride, Past President of Racquetball Canada. McBride, who has served on the Board of Directors for the past ten years, including four years as the President, wanted to ensure that a recognition program worthy of the great contributions made to the sport was in place. The Hall of Fame is a just one example McBride’s legacies to the sport.

“Having been involved in racquetball for over thirty three years, I’ve seen many great players and committed volunteers and realized there was no current place to honor these individuals for their contribution to our sport,” said McBride. “Many of these individuals have represented Canada at home and internationally, bringing great honour to both themselves and our country.”

“Canada has a reputation of highly skilled and motivated individuals who contribute at the highest levels.” McBride added. “Some have already been nominated into the International Racquetball Federation Hall of Fame. I saw the need for our own Hall of Fame to acknowledge their contribution to our sport and country. It is only right that their names be placed in a location for all Canadians to see.”

The Hall of Fame will induct its first members on May 27, 2017 in Brossard, QC at the Awards Banquet being held in conjunction with the Canadian Championships.

A maximum of two athlete members and one builder member will be inducted into the Racquetball Canada Hall of Fame each year.  However, in recognition that the Hall of Fame has been conceived several years after the inception of the sport and the number of worthy candidates to be recognized there will be up to six nominees selected for induction in the first year.

The deadline for nominations to the Racquetball Canada Hall of Fame is January 31, 2017.
