In March when we announced that the Canadian Championships and Junior Canadian Championships were being cancelled, there was still hope that a fall event could be held to determine the 2020 Canadian Singles and Doubles Champions.
In light of the ongoing impact of COVID-19, the Board of Directors, with the recommendation from the High Performance Committee, has decided that this is not possible. This means that for the first time In Canadian Racquetball history no Canadian Champions will be crowned.
“This was a difficult decision emotionally from the stand point of wanting the National Team athletes to be able to come together, compete and see the results of all their hard work,” said Jennifer Saunders, Racquetball Canada’s High Performance & Sport Development Director. “However it really was a simple decision because of how much we value our athletes. Their health and safety comes first as well as that of our coaches, volunteers and administrators.”
In looking to the future, Sanders noted,“Racquetball Canada’s High Performance Committee will soon begin making plans for the 2020-21 season and we know as a team and an organization will come out stronger on the other side of this unprecedented time in sport.”
We look forward to the day when we can connect as a team and compete again as high performance athletes.
