Award Bio – Usher Barnoff

Usher Barnoff has a long history with the sport at the local, national and international level. He was the recipient of the Ivan Velan Award for his work as a Builder and Official.

Barnoff first became involved in the sport in Alberta in the early 1980’s. He served as the President of the Alberta Racquetball Association from 1990 to 1995 after being the Head of Officiating for the association in the 1980’s. Barnoff quickly became involved in officiating at the national and international level. Between 1986 and 1999 he was an official at four world championships, two Pan Am Championships and the 1999 Pan Am Games.

Barnoff has made significant contributions in the governance area at the national level. He has served as the President of the Board of Directors since 1999 and also has served as a member of the Board’s Executive Committee where he managed several portfolios including High Performance, Development and Technical. He has been a member of the Officiating Committee since 1988, serving in the position of Chair for nine years. He also represented Racquetball Canada with the World Anti Doping Agency and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport Dispute Resolution Program.

Barnoff has been heavily involved governance with the International Racquetball Federation (IRF). He has served as Chair of the IRF Rules Committee since 1992 and was elected as the Vice President, North Amercian in 2000. He has been the Technical Director since 2003 and was named as the IRF representative to the World Anti Doping Agency in 2004.

Barnoff has also served with the Pan American Racquetball Confederation (PARC) since 2000 when he was elected the Vice-President. He has been the Technical Director and Chairman of the Rules Committee since 2003.
