Winnipeg (November 28, 2019) – Eighteen of Canada’s top racquetball athletes will be in Sherwood Park competing at Racquetball Canada’s first National Team Selection Event of the season. The tournament is being held at the Glenn Allan Recreation Complex from November 29 to December 1. The event is open to the public at no cost.

The organizers are also hosting a tournament open to all participants that will run concurrently with the Selection Event that includes several singles and doubles skill categories. In total, over sixty players of all ages and abilities will be competing in the tournament. National team athletes will compete in the Men’s and Women’s Open Singles events.

Results from this event impact the selection of international teams for the 2020 Pan Am Championships and World Championships and are also part of the consideration for nomination to national teams and Sport Canada funding.

“I wanted to bring this tournament to Sherwood Park to expose our local players and the community to the high caliber of racquetball being played in Canada”, said Jack McBride, Chair of the tournament host committee. “We have some excellent players who have not been exposed yet to our national level athletes. We also have a nice group of young junior level athletes playing in the tournament who will be inspired. There is a lot of interest about this tournament in the sport community here in Sherwood Park and Edmonton.”

The following is a list of the athletes competing in the Open Events at the National Team Selection Event.
