{"id":21135,"date":"2022-08-27T09:38:01","date_gmt":"2022-08-27T13:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/racquetballcanada.ca\/?p=21135"},"modified":"2022-08-27T09:38:04","modified_gmt":"2022-08-27T13:38:04","slug":"team-canada-to-play-for-gold-at-world-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/racquetballcanada.ca\/team-canada-to-play-for-gold-at-world-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Canada to Play for Gold at World Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>WINNIPEG<\/strong> (August 26, 2022) \u2013 Canada has earned a spot in the Men\u2019s Team Event final at the International Racquetball Federation\u2019s World Championships being held in San Luis Potos\u00ed, Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Friday\u2019s play, Team Canada defeated Ecuador in two straight matches in the quarterfinal and went on to defeat Bolivia in the semi-final, also in two straight matches. They will face Mexico in Saturday\u2019s final which is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm Central<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The members of Canada\u2019s Men\u2019s Team are Lee Connell (Saskatoon), Coby Iwaasa (Lethbridge), Kurtis Cullen (Brandon) and Samuel Murray (St-Hubert). Iwaasa and Murray were the two athletes selected by the team to compete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a privilege to have made it this far. I\u2019m grateful to have Team Canada supporting me on the court,\u201d said Coby Iwaasa who spoke on behalf of the team. \u201cThese moments are what we train for and I\u2019m excited to put it all out on the court tomorrow for our entire team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Team Events have recently been added back into the competition schedule for the World Championships and other international tournaments. Nations face off in a combination of singles and double matches, with the winners being the nation that wins the best of three matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is Canada\u2019s second opportunity to win a gold medal at this year\u2019s World Championships.
