LAMBERT & MURRAY MOVE ON TO FINAL AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

WINNIPEG (August 24, 2022) – Frédérique Lambert of Montréal and Sam Murray of St-Hubert have advanced to the Mixed Doubles final at the World Championships being held in San Luis Potosí. The Canadians defeated Bolivia’s Conrrado Moscoso and Jenny Diaz Navia, 11-7, 11-9, 11-9 in Wednesday’s semi-final.

Lambert and Murray faced the Bolivian team earlier in the week during the preliminary round but lost. The Canadian’s were able to put that loss behind them to come up with a solid win to move on.

“It was a very fun match,” said Frédérique Lambert. “Sam is an amazing partner. I think we played great when it came to the important points.”

Sam Murray said, “I’m glad we came back strong in Mixed Doubles after having some tough doubles matches earlier in the day. We showed our character and we are ready for the final!”

This is the first time since 2014 that a Canadian team has played in a gold medal match at the World Championships.

Lambert also played in the Women’s Doubles semi-final today with Michèle Morissette of Baie-Comeau, but the two lost to their opponents from Argentina. Murray also teamed up with Coby Iwaasa of Lethbridge in Men’s Doubles but they were defeated by the team from Bolivia.

Lambert and Murray’s match should be streamed on the International Racquetball Federation Facebook Page and YouTube Channel. It is scheduled for 7:00 pm Central, however times are subject to change.

Canada enters the Team Competition phase at the World Championships beginning tomorrow. The tournament concludes on Saturday, August 27.
