Canada Wins Big on Wednesday at the Junior World Championships

Wednesday, December 8, 2021 – It was a big day for Team Canada at the Junior World Championships on Wednesday.

Christian Pocsai started things off with a win in his 16 & U singles match, defeating the 7th seed Santiago Gamboa of Costa Rica in an exciting tie-breaker win with scores of 12-15,15-2, 11-8. Christian will play Mexico’s Jorge Guiterrez in his quarterfinal match on Thursday at 12:00 pm (central).

Christian Pocsai and Nathan Jauvin upset the second seeded team from Mexico, Sebastian Longoria and Erick Trujillo in 18 & U doubles. It was another tight match with scores of 15-13, 5-15, 11-8. The two move on to the semifinals where they will face Jhoel Acha and Nestor Zenteno of Bolivia at 3:00 pm Thursday.

Raphael Guillemette and Asher Pocsai also had a big win in 14 & U doubles against Andre Pacheco and Gabriel Matamoros of Costa Rica with scores of 1-15, 15-8, 11-7.  A loss would have put the team out of the medals but a win has advanced the Canadians to the semi-finals.

Chloé Jauvin also played her last 14 & U singles pool match on Wednesday. With her 2-2 record, she has advanced to the quarterfinals and will play Maria Argueta of Guatemala on Thursday at 5:00 pm.

Juliette Parent is back in action on Thursday in her 18 & U singles quarterfinal against Ximena Martinez of Mexico at 1:00 pm

Nathan Jauvin will play his 18 & U singles quarterfinal against Luis Aguilar of Bolivia on Thursday at 11:00 am.

Tamara Wilscam and Ofelia Wilscam also play their final doubles pool play match on Thursday at 2:00 pm
